Neuro-Maniplator Implants (NMI) are devices that are implanted in the brain, specifically developed to combat the effects of gap sickness. The controls for these implants are entrusted to a captain or responsible crew member that will activate the right settings to control impulses in the brain, either nullifying or reducing the conditions that cause gap sickness.
Some cases of the sickness are so severe that they must be rendered unconscious to get through the conditions that cause sickness, such as a hostile reaction to a common external stimuli. In other cases, if the sickness is less severe, you can simply administer the proper set of chemicals in the brain to allow the victim to function as normal, like combating a sudden bout of hostility or depression with an injection of seratonin.
Because NMIs allow someone to be effectively controlled by the person that operates them, illegally installing or using a NMI is grounds for the death penalty.
